The Jr Barbs Competitive Cheer teams are one of the premier programs in Pop Warner Chicagoland Cheer, proudly earning two Regional Championships and securing Top 5 finishes at Nationals. Our athletes train in a high‑energy, supportive environment that emphasizes skill development, teamwork, and confidence on and off the mat. With a proven record of excellence and a commitment to developing strong, resilient athletes, our program continues to set the standard for recreational competitive youth cheer in our DeKalb. |

Our K–2 Sideline Cheer program is the perfect introduction to cheerleading for our youngest Jr Barbs. This non‑travel, in‑house program focuses on teaching the essential skills and building blocks every future cheerleader needs — from motions and jumps to rhythm, teamwork, and confidence. With fun, age‑appropriate instruction and a supportive environment, our athletes learn the fundamentals while cheering on our Jr Barbs Flag teams and building pride in their community. It’s the ideal first step for young athletes ready to shine on the sidelines. To gently introduce them to the excitement of performance and competition, our K–2 athletes also participate in the Pop Warner Princess Gala Exhibition, giving them a positive first experience on the big stage. Our 3–5 Sideline Cheer team proudly supports our Jr Barbs tackle football program while introducing athletes to the excitement of travel sideline cheer. Designed for kids who are new to cheer or still building their foundation, this program focuses on strengthening motions, jumps, timing, and teamwork — the essential skills that prepare athletes for future success. With a fun, supportive environment and opportunities to perform at home and away games, our 3–5 Sideline team is the perfect bridge for athletes who want to grow their confidence and eventually move into our award‑winning competitive cheer program. |

WHERE DO YOU PRACTICE? |
|

|
Practices for both sideline and competitive cheer are held outdoors near the football field/outdoor track at Huntley Middle School (1515 S 4th St, DeKalb, IL 60115). Practices are typically canceled in the event of inclement weather. K-2 practices are Tuesday and Thursday with games on Thursday starting in late August. 3rd-5th practices are Tuesday and Thursday with games on weekends starting in early August. Competitive practices are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. We will move the teams indoors when weather starts to cool down. |

WHAT SHOULD MY CHILD WEAR? |

For practice, Jr Barbs cheerleaders should wear a T‑shirt, athletic shorts and tennis shoes. Hair must be pulled up and away from the face to ensure safety and focus during practice. Please note that no jewelry is permitted while participating in cheer activities. Since the Midwest weather can change, we recommend leggings and a sweatshirt for potential colder weather We will practice weather permitting, so bundle up just in case! |

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? |

Our programs range from $150-$430. We offer flexible payment programs and scholarships too! At DeKalb Jr Barbs, we believe every child should have the opportunity to play — and our raffle ticket program makes that possible. Each athlete receives raffle tickets totaling the cost of their enrollment. Families sell these tickets for $10 each and can either keep the proceeds if their registration is paid in full or use the funds to pay off their balance. This unique approach allows families to completely offset the cost of participation, making it possible for athletes to play entirely free while supporting our community and programs at the same time. |

One of the best parts of the DeKalb Jr. Barbs is that it's built by this community and that starts with our coaches. We're always looking for passionate parents and community members to step up and help lead our kids. You don't need a coaching background or cheer experience, just a willingness to show up, be a positive role model, and invest in the next generation of Barbs. We'll take care of the rest. Coaching is one of the most rewarding things you can do for your kid, their teammates, and this program. There's nothing quite like watching a child grow in confidence over the course of a season and knowing you had a hand in that.
